S3 – Signature Logo

Signature Logo Mock 1
Final Design.

Part of our first Adobe Suite task this year was the create a logo featuring our hand-drawn signatures. Firstly we were asked to fill clean pieces of paper with our signatures, experimenting different ways of writing our signature, either with different pens, or marker; or writing it faster or slower to see the different effects.

The above images show my experiments with my signature. I used a variety of pen thicknesses and shapes, and also tried to mimick different fonts to see how it changed the way I wrote my signature.

After we did this we were then asked to scan the signatures and chose our favourite, we then cropped it out of the rest of the signatures on photoshop, and moved on to the next phase of the design process.

These were the two signatures I decided to develop further.

Our next step was the move the images into Adobe Illustrator and using the live trace tool, turn the images into illustrator shapes of the signatures.

This was what my signatures look liked after I converted them from images to Adobe Illustrator shapes, minus the ‘designs’ typography which I added later in the design phase.

After this, we played around with the size, angle and shapes of our signatures until we were happy with how they looked. Then we moved them onto black background for the final presentation.

This is what the final signature designs looked like on black backgrounds. The first image was my favourite of the two so the class decided to add ‘DESIGNS’ (or other words) in the bottom right corner, to finish off the signature as more of a brand logo.

Also as an extra addition we finished off our favourite signature logo on backgrounds, to further emphasise the feeling of the signature being brand logos.

We also turned our designs into a portfolio piece by putting them in Indesign.

Conclusion: I had a lot of fun doing this task, and would definitely continue to explore my signature as a logo further in my own time. I think in the ends my design turned out really well and suits me as a designer, and the things the I design.
